The Company is named after Össur Kristinsson, an Icelandic prosthetist who developed the breakthrough silicone interface for prosthetic sockets, the Iceross® liner. Building on that pioneering tradition, Össur has added numerous life changing products to its portfolio.

Although our history is in product innovation we recognise that healthcare is changing and our area of non-invasive orthopaedics is no exception. Innovation in product design is essential to our growth but without innovations in patient treatment pathways this will merely increase overall healthcare costs. In the current healthcare environment, this would limit the market potential of the innovation that we bring to our customers.

If we are to bring value to our customers, improved outcomes to our patients and reasonable reward to shareholders, we need to innovate in conservative management pathways with healthcare systems around the globe. It is partnership between industry, payers and healthcare providers that is required to achieve these winning collaborations. In some cases, we have to question the reliance on traditional surgical interventions in order to move the game forward.
